ANSELMO CREW

Anselmo Crew was founded in New Zealand in 2002 by Sub Anselmo (vocal, saz, accordion), a travelling busker at the time, and Tommaso Anselmo (bass guitar), who had just arrived from exploring Asia. Upon their return to Hungary, they joined forces with like-minded adventurous musicians to form a posse of broad urban world music. The band infuses authentic musical traditions of the continents – from Latin America through Turkey to Africa – into contemporary urban dance music, and translate it into a carneval atmosphere when performing live.

After three LPs and appearances on 10 compilations (Putumayo: Gipsy Groove, 2007; Sony: World Music from Hungary Vol. 2, 2010) they start the new decade with a new line-up. Though the band has shrunk from nine to six members, songwriter and frontman Sub Anselmo and his band have retained in their sound everything that made Anselmo a treasured party band. Without the wind instruments, the band has become more mobile and energetic, emphasising their new MC and previously upstaged instruments like the accordion, the saz and the Spanish guitar.
